Workshop on updating the SEPCA Threat Assessment Report 2024

The Criminal Intelligence Service of Austria (BK) together with the Ministry of Interior of Republic of Serbia, during its SEPCA Presidency in Office, organized the “Workshop on updating the SEPCA Threat Assessment Report 2024” that was held in Vienna, on September 17th, 2024.

The event was fully funded by the BK through the Internal Security Fund 2021-2027 and brought together the analysts from each SEPCA member state.

The Workshop focused on the process of updating the SEPCA Threat Assessment Report 2024 that will provide a strategic analysis of the threats posed by serious and organised crime in the SEPCA countries and will underline the new trends in the region that are also affecting EU countries.

It is to mention that the SEPCA Threat Assessment was firstly drafted in 2019 with the support of BK and guided by expert analysts from EUROPOL and BK.

The Report will highlight the following 6 priorities that were identified as common threats in all SEPCA member states and that are the most serious security problems in the region:

  • Property Crime;
  • Illegal Migration;
  • Human Trafficking;
  • Illicit Drug Trafficking;
  • Cybercrime;
  • Organized Crime Groups.

These threats are not just SEPCA’s priorities, but are also EU’s priorities in the fight against serious and organised crime as part of EMPACT 2022-2025 and the previous agreed methodology, which was developed in accordance with EUROPOL standards.

Therefore, each priority identified in the SEPCA Threat Assessment Report will show the current state of security, the identified perpetrators of criminal activities, their modus operandi, potential threats, consequences and risks, including the projection of the movement of each priority in the future, enabling a more efficient and effective exchange of data and information between the SEPCA member countries and the direction of joint work to counter the identified problems.

The SEPCA Threat Assessment Report 2024 is an important Management Steering Tool for Police Leadership and will be presented to Police Chiefs at the second General Assembly in December 2024.

The BK remains SEPCA’s strategic partner that contributes to enhance SEPCA’s capacities in order to secure the region through mutual expertise and support.
