“Financial Investigations and the Fight against Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling in the SEPCA Region”
According to the priorities proposed by the Albanian Presidency of SEPCA for 2025, on March 19, 2025, at the premises of Hotel Rogner in Tirana, Albania, the SEPCA Chairmanship in Office, in cooperation with the EU4FAST WB Project (EU Support to Strengthen the Fight against Migrant Smuggling and Trafficking in Human Beings in the Western Balkans), organized an event focused on “Financial Investigations and the Fight against Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling in the SEPCA Region.”
Present at this event were representatives of SEPCA member countries, experts in the field of financial investigations, human trafficking and migrant smuggling, representatives from the Central Anti-Mafia Directorate in Italy, Guardia di Finanza, the Security Expert Office at the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in Albania the EU4FAST WB Project, the GIZ Project in Albania and North Macedonia, ecc.
During this meeting, the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with and exchange best practices, as well as expand their competencies in the field of financial investigations, the fight against human trafficking and migrant smuggling. They also discussed the possibilities of strengthening international and regional cooperation in these fields and beyond.
All participants agreed on the importance of establishing, within SEPCA, a Network of Experts for Financial Investigation, who will follow financial investigations in cases of human trafficking and migrant smuggling. This network aims to maintain direct contact among them as a crucial instrument in strengthening regional cooperation.
